Frosty Fashions

I realize I'm starting to sound like a broken record with all of the weather talk, but seriously you guys. It. Does NOT. Stop. Snowing. I am slowly going insane. However, all this fluffy stuff did prove slightly useful. Today, I entered the ModStylist's Frosty Fashions contest and all the snow went pretty well with the theme! I would really appreciate if you guys vote for me as I desperately struggle to support my shopping addiction. You should also enter yourself! It's actually a lot of fun!

I have to say I'm pretty excited that I entered this contest. Even though I doubt I will win, this is something I never would have done a month ago, and I'm proud of myself for doing something out of my comfort zone! I think that's a good thing for all of us to do :) Plus my friends have been hilariously supportive of me as I attempt to win Modcloth dollars. It's always awesome to realize just how great your friends are :)

This is seriously one of my favourite outfits to wear. I am in love with both florals and long sleeved dresses, so this dress is just perfect for me. It's also really comfortable and I love that I can wear it for three out of four seasons of the year! And these boots are my prized possession. It is seriously unlikely that I will be seen in cold weather without these strapped to my feet. Modcloth just has the greatest clothing and it is probably my favourite place to shop. They have the cutest, quirkiest pieces, and I have been known to browse through all the pages for hours on end! My friend Maria (a fellow English major) actually just purchased this dress to wear for her graduation, and I'm incredibly excited about it. Such an adorable and perfect dress for an English student, I wish I had thought of it!!

I've been working a lot this week which is never fun! 30 hour work weeks while still attending school full time are definitely not the greatest. But my friends and I played Settlers of Catan last weekend which was great (have you guys ever played Settlers? It's so awesome haha we get really intense about it). And I'm looking forward to a cute date night tomorrow night. I hope you are all having a swell, stress-free week! xo

Mint Winter

I haven't posted anything in ages! And by ages, I mean a week. This is mostly due to the fact that I haven't worn anything even remotely worthy of documenting. It has been a freezing and lazy week, my friends. And while I haven't blogged much, I did have a nice little week full of coffee dates with Em, multiple Starbucks trips with Maria, and movie nights with Mike (we went to see This Is 40, what did you guys think of it?). I've also been decorating up my room in fun and nifty little ways, which I'm excited to share later :) And lots of school and work, as per usual.

A few things were made very clear to me through the taking/ editing of these photos:
  • My mother was right and this skirt is definitely too short
  • My mother was right, times two, and flats are not warm enough for this weather
  • My mother must never read my blog and know that I just wrote she was right, twice
  • I am in desperate need of a haircut
  • Tripods are convenient and make everything easier but I still hate them and wish I owned a magical camera
  • There is no fear greater than anticipating someone walking in on you while taking outfit pictures in a public space
  • As a group, fashion bloggers are absolutely insane for taking outfit pictures in the snow. We're insane guys. It may look sunny and bright in these pictures but I can assure you I was absolutely FREEZING my toes off!

I wore this outfit to school, and then quickly decided to trade in my flats for a pair of boots. Em, Mark, Mike and I all went for dinner to the Palace last night, and it was so NOM. Today, Mike leaves for Toronto for the weekend, so I am entering into needy girlfriend mode (haha just kidding kind of). I guess this will just be a great excuse to get some assignments rolling ;) Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Hearts on my Sleeve

Ouff guys. It's been snowing so much lately that it's actually becoming unbearable. I have to clean my car off several times a day and the roads are absolute insanity. Sorry for complaining though, I can be such a pathetic Canadian sometimes ;)

Yesterday was a doozy. I had a long day of school and work, and by the end of the day I was SO glad to be cuddled up in bed. I took these pictures after my morning class, at the beginning of my brutal day. I went to Bellvue Park, and actually took these pictures in front of a frozen pond! It's impossible to tell through all the snow though. As this little picture outing progressed, my outfit became snowier, my bun became droopier, my camera became water-drop-pier and in general I became more and more flustered. Then I lost my phone in the snowbank (by some miracle I was able to go back and find it). Just looking at these pictures makes me shudder haha!

Something on my shoe I guess?

This is a typical Angela-goes-to-school outfit. This top is so cute but so comfy, so I love to just throw it on over a pair of leggings and boots. It's simple and perfect for school, and I am probably guilty of throwing this top on a little too often (In other words, prepare to see me rockin this shirt a few more times in the future)!

This is me being legitimately frightened by someone walking their dog.

Today I just had a nice little easy-going day at work. My aunt is in town this weekend from Toronto so my plans probably won't be incredibly thrilling! Just lots of work and family time. I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! What are your plans??

The Staves

If you guys haven't already heard of (and fallen in love with) The Staves, you should watch these videos RIGHT NOW. And then watch them another 100 times each. And then click through to listen to their other songs, and listen to those 100 times each. They are well worth it.

I first heard this AWESOME band in the summer, and have become completely obsessed. These sisters have absolutely incredible voices and are totally gorgeous. Lately, though, I have also become totally enamored with their style. They each seem to always be fabulously and effortlessly dressed (the fashion blog world has taught me that amazing style seems to be a common feature among you lucky Brits).

As someone who tends to gravitate toward the feminine side of things fashion-wise, I completely love the way they incorporate menswear into their outfits. The combination of their awesome hats, button-up shirts, blazers, cozy sweaters, and cute boots and brogues is just too much for me.

So naturally, I'm planning a nice little order on Forever 21 so I can try out some of these trends. I've always loved Forever 21 for that purpose. They have everything and the prices are so reasonable, especially for a broke student like me. It's such a great store to try out new and different styles that you might find intimidating, without the additional intimidation of a large price tag. I'll be sure to share my purchases once they come in :D

Please note: These videos and pictures are not the property of Invented Romance. They were all found through Google or Tumblr, and since I am forgetful I didn't save the sources. Oops! If you know the source, please let me know :)

A Cold Grey Day

Hello friends! Today was an extremely cold, grey, and windy day. My morning classes were cancelled, so I spent the day driving around, fixing up this blog (I added buttons! << over there), catching up on TV shows, and thinking about all the homework I could be doing. Do any of you watch Girls (sidenote, YAY on the Golden Globe wins)? I just watched the season premiere and I was so excited to see Donald Glover! Community is another one of my favourite shows :) So many great TV shows are starting up again this month and next! Which will be such a perfect distraction from the piles of homework I'll be receiving hahaha. What shows are you guys looking forward to?

These pictures were taken at the halfway point of the aimless drive I went on earlier today. I stopped in Gros Cap, a little township on the outskirts of our city. It's so nice there on a normal day, but the water made things just a TINY BIT too chilly. I look sooo cold and rosy and windswept and poofy-haired, but of course I can't complain. It's due to my own faulty decision making. Kudos to those of you who take outfit pictures in the snow on a regular basis! You are brave souls.

Shopping Day with Embo

Yesterday, Em and I went for a nice little shopping spree! Our city essentially has zero good places to shop, but we still managed to put a fairly large dent in our funds. Let's just say I am very, very glad that Friday is pay day. This is the outfit I wore for our day of shopping. I have to confess that I am wearing leggings as pants. I'm not proud, but I have addressed it and we can move on now ;)

I bought some fun lilac jeans and a pair of floral jeans from Joe, which I'm really excited about :) I saw the floral jeans out of the corner of my eye, and then immediately zeroed in on them and charged them down. I was seriously a woman on a mission. I already own a pair of floral jeans, but I am a grandma at heart and love floral patterns, so had to add more to the collection.

A few of my friends are having a little get-together tonight and I'm super excited! I hope you are all having a wonderful week and that the new year is treating you well :)

Holiday Work Party

On Saturday night, my work had a little belated Christmas party. We all invited guests out for wings (salad and fries for my vegetarian self), exchanged Secret Santa presents, and had a merry old time. I absolutely love the people I work with and we get along so well. Plus my boss is actually the most wonderful boss in the world. She made each of us a little charm-type-thing as a present, and attached a word that applied to each of us. Mine was "abundance of love," which gave me warm and fuzzies. This is the outfit I wore for the party, and you sure can bet I felt overdressed going out for wings! Classic dilemma.

The work party was especially fun because three of my absolute favourite people happened to be there! One of my best friends (Emily) is dating my boyfriend's best friend (Mark), and earlier this year I was able to get him (Mark) a job at the bookstore I work at. As a result, the four of us see each other all the time and have become ridiculously close. I know, ugly right? Best friends dating best friends who become best friends. It's just awful and cheesey, but I love those folks. So the four of us went to the work party together, and then afterwards moseyed on over to Mike (my boyfriend)'s house. We had a merry old mini-party time and it was just the greatest.

I absolutely love these spotted tights, but about an hour into wearing them, they got caught on a pokey bit of wood and ripped. I've bought SO MANY pairs of tights like this (including ones with CUTE hearts and others with anchors), and I ALWAYS have issues. Do you guys ever have that problem? It's just the worst! I can't keep a pair of tights for more than a day.

Anyway, today is the first day of winter semester. I am not ready to be back at all. My break was far too short, especially because I worked through most of it, and because of some stressful family stuff going on. But I suppose I'm just going to have to suck it up and bury my nose in some books! I hope those of you who are also students are able to brave the new semester! And for those of you lucky folks who are out of school, I hope your new year is going just swell. Has anyone given up on their resolutions yet?

New Blog for a New Year

Hello friends! You are currently looking at my new year’s resolution, lucky you. I’ve been wanting to start a blog since May 2010, when I first discovered SWEET blogs like A Thought is the Blossom, Lulu Letty, and Selective Potential (two of these blogs aren't even in existence anymore, that's how long this has been a thing). I've always loooved reading style/ fashion blogs & have been completely inspired by the blogs that I've read. My shopping addiction has become a preeetty big issue as a result. I have hemmed and hawed for three years now, and finally the moment has come. It’s a new year, we’ve survived the apocalypse, and my closet has expanded at a frightening, overwhelming rate. Why not. I might as well take some pictures of my clothes since they’re not really serving any other useful purpose. So BAM. Here it is. My blog.

This is the outfit I wore to ring in the New Year. Myself, my boyfriend, and some of our absolute favourite friendos had a little get-together, complete with awesome games like flip cup and drunk snakes and ladders. And none of the pictures from my night will make it on here, because they are far too blurry and sloppy and generally hideous.

I bought this dress months and months and months ago and knew it would be perfect for New Yearsss. The gold sparkle is sew subtle and fun. I also love the cut-out back. However I have yet to find a backless bra so I’m rockin the visible bra look. Oooooops.

(That picture looks extremely posed and I apologize. In reality I am just oblivious)

I painted my nails in a glitter fade and I can’t even explain how proud I was of myself. And then approximately five seconds after finishing my nails, I smudged my pointer finger in a major way. Le sigh.

SO I guess that is my first blog post. How thrilling. I fully expect to embarrass myself entirely and regret half the things I post on here. This will either be extremely fun or absolutely traumatizing! CAN’T WAIT TO SEE.
